The Last Pilot – Special Weapons

I’ve been working away like a maniac on our metroidvania action-RPG The Flawless: Art’s Tale throughout the week but in the evenings I’ve taken a break and done a bit of work on the special weapons for our other video game The Last Pilot.

The Last Pilot is a cyberpunk sh’mup/top-down-shooter hybrid where military cats fly planes and shoot massive guns. It’s full of glowy effects and big explosions. We’ve been showing some screenshots of the sh’mup part of the game. Where the player takes control of the last pilot, Moon, and his gunner, Raith, as they fly a nuclear powerhouse of a plane called ‘The Weapon’ in an attempt to blow the enemy out of the sky and save the feline world. The top-down-shooter element is not ready to show yet but watch this space. Every plane needs some special weapons right? Some powerful guns or missiles that can be used tactically or as a last resort to get out of a tight spot. Well The Weapon has seven such weapons and we’re going to have a gander at four of them in this article. To fire the weapons you need to get a large enough hit combo, then press the trigger and boom!

Flawless Art’s Walk Cycle

I’ve been busy working away on our new hero Art’s walk cycle for our action-RPG The Flawless: Art’s Tale (TFAT).

I think his walk cycle is coming on pretty well. The art-style has improved; still inspired by kids drawings and in monochrome but more detailed. I’ve tried to give him a bit of a stomp and think his cat hood looks pretty cute. He’s carrying a very basic sword which will be upgradable in the game. I’ve been working on loads of different swords each with special perks which I’ll show you guys soon.

Fact-Sheet:
Description:

Intended for  release on Windows, Linux, Mac, PS4, Nintendo Switch, & XBOX One.

The Flawless: Art’s Tale is a metroidvania action-RPG. Join our young hero, Art, for some epic hack ‘n’ shoot battles, an endearing cast of characters, an unforgettable coming of age story, and a gorgeous hand-drawn art style.

You take control of Art; a twelve year old boy who awakens to find himself alone in a brutal and monochrome world of cats. He is catapulted into an extraordinary adventure where he must save his pet cat ‘Mr Dirty Paws’ and bring colour back to the surreal feline world. Along the way he meets all manner of cats. Some try to use him to do their bidding, some want him dead and use all manner of deception to end his life. Others befriend him and try to help him save Dirty Paws and unleash his Flawless powers. As he is drawn deeper into this strange and complex world it becomes clear that saving Dirty Paws may involve saving the world but is our young hero up to the task!

Gameplay:

Our hero Art is a pretty nimble little fella. From the moment he opens his eyes to see the surreal monochrome cat world he can run, jump, dash, and wall jump. His friendly droid FT follows him around as his flying arsenal of ranged weapons. Once Art has a sword he can hack away at enemies and do some cool combos, hack-stab-hack, hack-kick-hack up, you get the picture. Most of the swords Art finds deal more damage to organic enemies whilst FT’s guns do more damage to mechanical enemies making them the perfect duo. In the surreal world of cats there aren’t just organic and mechanical enemies, oh no! There are organic enemies wearing mechanical armour, mechanical baddies with organic internals and brains, machines that wear other living beings as armour. This is a strange and deadly world and Art and FT must work together to overcome the plethora of threats facing them.

As well as the hack ‘n’ shoot lifestyle that Art and FT must adopt they also need to explore the world. Exploration on the isometric world map will uncover new areas, characters to talk to, side quests, and loot. Art can travel to a number of towns where he can help the locals, buy supplies, and do all manner of side activities. Once Art and FT have cleared out the enemies from an area they can explore the area using Art’s  moves; jumping holes, climbing cliffs, dashing over spike pits to uncover hidden treasure and quest items.

The Last Pilot is Coming

We are pleased to announce that our new video game, The Last Pilot, will be coming to PCs, Macs and console at some point in the future.

The Last Pilot is a cyberpunk shmup/top-down-shooter hybrid set in the same world of cats as our sidescrolling Action-RPG The Flawless: Art’s Tale. The game is a pre-apocalyptic prequel to The Flawless and will shine light on the events that led to the brutal Flawless world. The game is being created alongside The Flawless: Art’s Tale and will be released afterwards. A mini version of The Last Pilot may feature in The Flawless as a mini-game in the arcade but this is yet to be confirmed.

Best Indie Games – Death Trash and Sunken

Post apocalyptic debauchery and hardcore dungeon madness, we’re taking no prisoners in this week’s Best Indie Games. Boom!

Busy, busy, busy with The Flawless: Art’s Tale but just when you think you’re ready to get stuck-in, something bad happens and ruins your week. We’ve had broken laptops, busted up motorbikes and family scares (don’t worry everything is fine). In the past few days everything seems to have settled down a bit so we’ve been cracking on with the indie development for our epic game again… Whilst Ste’s been wrestling with the code I’ve been figuring out the plot some more and checking out other amazing looking indie games. This week I’ve found two really awesome looking games that you just have to have a look at. Are you ready for Death Trash, a post-apocalyptic RPG by Stephan Hövelbrinks, and Sunken, story driven action-RPG by Stevan Jevtic and Vladislav Mihailovic! Watch out people these tricks aren’t for kids so get ready!
